Free Coffe for Everyday Heroes

Do you know someone that is a nurse, police office, fire fighter, teacher, or active military member? I'm honored that my brother is currently in the Navy stationed in Iraq, my husband and brother-in-law are fire fighters, my father-in-law is a retired police officer, and my mother-in-law is a retired nurse. Phew that is a lot of heroes in my book!

Dunkin Donuts is giving away free coffee for those everyday heroes mentioned above. Starting November 24, Dunkin Donuts in Phoenix is starting their “Thanks to You” program to recognize local everyday heroes. This program will run through April 2010 and will acknowledge five distinct groups: firefighters, police, teachers, nurses, and active military personnel.

Each month, one group will receive a FREE medium hot or iced coffee every Tuesday of that month. To receive the promotion, customers need to show valid ID or proof of employment.

“Thanks to You” recipients are as follows:

* Nov. 24 – December 2009 – Firefighters
* January 2010 – Police
* February 2010 – Teachers
* March 2010 – Nurses
* April 2010 – Active Military

This is an incredible program honoring wonderful people, so make sure you tell all your friends and family in the Phoenix area so they participate.

Thanks, Erin!

CVS Deals 11/29-12/5

It's crazy that we're already into December this week! Check out all the CVS match ups here.

I've been taking a bit of a break from my usual couponing. In fact, I haven't stepped foot into CVS or Walgreens for several weeks now! I had so many other things going on in life that something had to give and that was the easiest. But, thanks to great stockpiling I've been able to do, I only had to go to the store for the daily staples like milk, eggs, yogurt, and a few other things. It's such a blessing to have the things our family needs on hand without paying full retail for them. Plus we were able to donate several bags to Neighborhood Ministries and Operation Christmas Shoebox. How have you been able to help others with your stockpile?

Thanks Money Saving Mom!

The Bonnie Hunt Show is giving 25,000 a free Personalized Cover 8.5x11 20-page Photoworks photo book ($39.95 value).

Use the coupon code BONNIE.

The bummer is there's no way to find out if all 25,000 codes have been used until you checkout with your book. I just finished mine at 10am on Wednesday morning and it went thru for free. It's worth trying if you have time and some pictures ready!

I can't wait to see the quality of this and compare it to shutterfly & snapfish.

Visitors, Remodeling, and Adoptions

I apologize for being non-existent for the past several days. It's been a whirlwind of a week for us and it's only going to get busier. On Thursday, my dad & step-mom came to visit us from Colorado. We haven't seen them since May so it was a great chance to hang out and catch up. They will be leaving on Monday and we hate saying good-bye.

We're also in the process of extending our patio so we can play outside now that it's so nice. But it's meant a lot of people working and a lot of noise outside. They've done a great job and it's coming together so well.

Lastly, Thursday also gave us a call from our adoption agency letting us know some birth parents want to meet us! This is what we've been waiting for and praying for and we are thrilled beyond belief. We have been preparing for our meeting on Tuesday and we know this is only the first step in a lifelong journey for us.

With all these thing going on, I've hardly had a chance to sit down to our computer. We're trying to fill out a grant application thru Lifesong for Orphans, an agency that provides financial help and ideas for adoptions. We're trying to fill out the application as quickly as possible so we can get it in the mail this week. It takes a while to get approved and we don't have a lot of time in this situation.

Thanks for all your prayers and encouragement and I love knowing that our family has all of you cheering us on. I'll try to post a few thing between now & Tuesday but we will be so busy and I know all of you will be busy getting ready for Thanksgiving. Remember that this is a time to be thankful for who and what we have so keep that thought in the back of your head as your preparing a meal for visitors or traveling to visit loved ones.

May we all be grateful for what the Lord has provided and the great ways he gives us to stretch our money to honor Him!

Urgent Prayer Request for Shirly Dobson

I received this request via email from Kay Arthur, noted author of many Christian books and CEO of Precept Ministries. Please take a moment to pray and then pass this along to anyone you know that will also pray for Shirly Dobson.

Shirley Dobson, wife of Dr. James Dobson, will be giving a deposition tomorrow (11-10-09) from 8:30-4:30 PM. She is being sued by a group “Freedom From Religion” because she asked the President and other political leaders to pray for our nation…as leader of National Day of Prayer. I prayed with her tonight, but told her would have the staff and others praying for her tomorrow…this is so important. I am praying they will be stunned by the Spirit of God…convicted…convinced they will lose…and that if any of them are His lost sheep, that they will get convicted and saved because the Spirit of God will be so strong in that room. She is a valiant warrior…thanks

Kay Arthur
CEO of Precepts

I love Ebates.com

Do you order things online? I've never been a big online shopper with the exception of a few places. I order my photo prints/books online, I take advantage of a select few awesome deals, and I buy restaurant.com certificates online. Having said that, I still end up with a good amount of money in my ebates account each quarter. With the holidays right around the corner, there's a good chance that many of you are going to be doing shopping online. Take less than 1 minute to sign up for your own account to get paid back some of what you will spend this year. It's so easy to get your own account & I'm going to tell you exactly how to do it:

1. Go to ebates.com
2. To create a new account, simply enter your name and create a password - literally takes 15 seconds!
3. Once that is complete, simply enter the website you want (ex: restaurant.com) and that's it - really!

Upon your first order, your account will now be credited with a $5 sign-up bonus as well as a varying percentage back from your order. For example, I recently bought a comforter for my daughter's bed. I signed into my ebates account and then entered jcp.com. It took me directly to JCPenny's webpage where I ordered the comforter. Ebates was offering 3% cash back, so after my order was complete I instantly received an email notifying me of the credit I received in my account! Truly it's that simple!

Here are a few examples of online retailers and your cash back earned:

Magazines.com 21% cash back
Shutterfly.com 15% cash back
Snapfish.com 10% cash back
Restaurant.com 15% cash back
KodakGallery.com 15% cash back

And there are thousands more retailers. Even if you don't do a lot of shopping, an unexpected check in the mail is always a blessing when you aren't expecting it. and if you do shop online frequently, you can earn a good chunk of change to put back into savings or use somehow as part of the 30-Day Giving Challenge.

Regardless of how you shop, taking the 15 seconds to sign up for your account will pay you back more than you think and it's always nice to have unexpected money in the mailbox every few months :)

Let me know how much you have received from ebates by leaving a comment below.

Opt Out for Yellow Pages

For those of you that don’t use phone books anymore, this is a great website to take yourself off all mailing lists for unwanted or un-needed phone books. I hate throwing these huge books out every six months to replace them with another set that just takes up room in my kitchen! I frequently use yellowpages.com and anywho.com to find this information.

Take a minute to click here to start the process. Once you are on the page, click “Opt Out” below the box with the mountains entitled "join us." They do all the work by calling the different companies to have you removed from mailing lists.

Note: You will receive a confirmation email from Yellowpagesgoesgreen.com and you have to confirm your email to proceed. What a great way to save millions of trees that are sacrificed each year for our unwanted phone books!

While you're at it, check out this post to learn how to stop getting all that junk mail!

Help a friend win a cruise

Many of you will remember the little girl that we have been praying for, Kate McRae. She is the vibrant, beautiful, 5 year old little girl that was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor. She has been undergoing chemotherapy for several months now and we continue to pray that the tumor is disappearing every week! You can see her website here and keep up with her story.

Kate's grandma has a sibling, Rick, that was recently diagnosed with the debilitating disease, ALS. You can read more about his story here. He has been entered into a contest with radio station Life 101.9 and is now a finalist to win a Caribbean Cruise!

I don't know Rick personally, but I have dear friends that are praying for him so I would like to support him too! How cool would it be if all of you went and voted for him - the radio station wouldn't know what hit them! Please go here to vote for "Rick from Traer." Simply click on his name and that's it.

Just another opportunity to participate in the 30 Day Giving Challenge!

Script Gift Card Program

This is a guest post from one of my friends and readers, Amy. She has been given the opportunity to further her child's education at a Christian preschool by selling gift cards for the places we shop everyday! Her school receives a small profit for each gift card sold and that money is set aside to help pay for her son's tuition. For those of you participating in the 30-Day Giving Challenge, please consider ordering gift cards from her as part of the 30-Day giving Challenge.

Christmas is getting close, can you believe it? Have you started thinking about that hard to shop for person on your list? Get them a giftcard! The giftcard program at Ryan's school is working out well and it is really helping with our tuition.

If you are ready to get some of your Christmas shopping out of the way, order a giftcard from me! There are hundreds of retailers that participate across the US. And if you don't find what you're looking for here, let me know and I'll find out if it's a participating retailer. For example, those of you who live in AZ looking for a Fry's grocery store giftcard won't find it on this link because Script is based in Michigan and there is not a Fry's in Michigan. However, when I log in to my account, it's specific to AZ retailers so I can get it.

One more thing, if you would like to order a giftcard for Christmas but aren't quite ready, you can do that through me at any time, it doesn't have to be this week's order. Orders that are placed by Monday mornings are available to pick up on Friday mornings. I will pick them up and deliver them to you.

Thanks for taking the time to consider this and let me know if you have any questions. Feel free to email me with questions or to place orders!
Seasons Greetings!

Pumpkin Patch

As I mentioned before, we went to the pumpkin patch at the botanical gardens and had a wonderful morning. I took tons of pictures because I love using my new camera and because my daughter is too darn cute! They had great photo opps, hayrides, carnival games, a hay maze, a pumpkin patch (obviously), a petting zoo and more. We'll definitely go back again next year so maybe we'll see some of you next time!

Until then, please enjoy our pictures of the day!

Fall Update

I love the fall. I can finally wear jeans without sweating, we can open the doors in the early morning, and I can drink a cup of hot tea! I especially love all the pumpkin patches and the apple cider and the colors. We have taken full advantage of the season all winter long, but I'm hoping it gets out of the 90 degrees soon! Here are a few photos of what we've been up to.

30 Day Giving Challenge - Begins!

Sunday was Day 1 of the 30 Day Giving Challenge over at Keeping the Kingdom First! I'm so excited to be participating in this challenge so that I can be sure to keep the focus on others during this crazy holiday season!

I have always wanted a way to look back at times in my life to see when the Lord answers prayers or provided for our needs. This is going to be an awesome way to record that with my 30 day giving challenge journal. I'm using a cheap notebook I picked up for free during the back to school sales and I'm going to keep it in my purse so I can write blessings as soon as they happen. This will be so much fun and I hope that you will consider joining Alyssa and the rest of us!
